Audience’s Rights Reform #16: Expanded replay or continued-play value
These edits would extend a game’s lifespan after its natural end or provide more options for repeat players. They would not interfere with storytelling or first-time progression, nor would they disrupt original narrative arcs or challenge balance unless optionally engaged.
Example A: Mario RPGs
Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario 64 should be patched to add a postgame, i.e. to allow infinite play after defeating their respective final bosses.
Also, all Mario RPGs should add “superbosses”, i.e. infinite rematches against stronger versions of all the major bosses. These are a feature in many Paper Mario hacks and tribute games, so the fandom has understandably developed a taste for them.
Example B: Final Fantasy XIII
Upon its release in 2010, this one was widely criticized for being too linear, unlike previous titles in the series. The first 20-30 hours of the game, in particular, are infamously devoid of side content, exploration, or freedom. Once again, there’s something to be said for recalling and patching.
